The Facial Cleansing Brush, Is It Really Necessary?

Cleansing Facial Brush

I could tell you in advance that including regular exfoliation as a cleansing step in my facial care routine has completely changed my skin, revealing a smooth texture to the touch, and a healthy satin appearance.

How Does The Facial Cleansing Brush Work?

Facial Cleansing brushes work by removing dirt from the pores in depth, going further than cleansing soap can reach, removing makeup residue or sunscreen that makeup remover alone cannot dissolve in a first step. In this way, it prevents the appearance of pimples and blackheads caused by the obstruction of the pores.

A second benefit of facial cleansing brushes is their ability to work as mechanical exfoliators.

Exfoliation is the action of removing dead cells from the stratum corneum of the skin (the most superficial), exposing a deeper, brighter and softer layer. When this action is exerted by physical means, such as friction, we are talking about mechanical exfoliation.

Exfoliation facilitates the absorption of the other active ingredients that you will apply in your facial care routine, and improves the appearance of your skin from day one. I have applied the same principle with the rest of the body, and it is one of the best decisions I have made in terms of beauty.

A third benefit of facial brushes, which is evident in electric brushes that emit vibrations, is to improve the microcirculation of the skin, stimulating its renewal and toning it through small massages.

How Much Exfoliation Is Too Much?

Obviously, too much exfoliation can damage the skin barrier, worsening dryness and disrupting its lipid balance. According the blogpost "Best Skincare Set For Dry Skin: Hydration & Care", while exfoliating dry skin is recommended, do so gently, preferably with a mild chemical exfoliant, once a week to remove flaky skin

Never exfoliate too vigorously mechanically, and consult a dermatologist if you can exfoliate if you have eczema.

How To Use A Facial Scrubbing Brush: My Recommendations

I use the electric cleansing brush only once or twice a week, usually before bed as part of my evening facial routine, and especially if I'm wearing makeup that day.

I turn it on, and I gently go over my face in circular movements, taking 30 seconds at the most, emphasizing hard-to-reach areas, such as the sides of the nose. You should avoid rubbing it so hardly to prevent micro-abrasions and irritation.

Try to store it in a clean and dry place. Clean it after each use to prevent the buildup of bacteria, grease, and dead skin cells.

For a deep clean, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect or a mixture of baking soda and warm water. Avoid submerging it or getting water inside the handle if it's electronic, to prevent damage.

After each use, simply place the bristles under a stream of warm water for 15-20 seconds and let it air dry before placing it back on the charger

As I mentioned, the texture of the skin starts to change from the first use, which is why I became a real fan of exfoliating facial brushes, so for my skin type, they have been really necessary.
